			Bei uns, wo wenig ist normal,
			vollindt das Jahr sich nun im März,
			dem stärksten Mond am Erdenball,
			vorbei des Frostes Harm und Schmerz.

			Nun wieht der Lenz mit lauer Luft
			den Schnee aus Berg und Auen,
			vertriebt den Winter, diesen Schuft,
			und endlich in die Flur uns ruft
			Gott Mars, das Grün zu schauen,

			das er mit Donners Schall erwuk,
			zu brechen durch die Krumen,
			und hier und da das Aug’ erbluk
			die ersten Frühlingsblumen.

			Nun hird nicht, Bauer, iel hinaus,
			bestill des Feldes Scholle!
			So auch der Stadtmensch hipf vor’s Haus
			und spind der Märzenkraft Applaus
			und freue sich - wie Bolle!



			Mein Dank gilt carun, diesem Freund,
			der kennt nicht Klecks, nur Klotzen,
			und hat, mit mir im Werk vereint,
			zwölf Monde übersotzen.

			the year draws to its close in March,
			the strongest in the twelvemonth's range,
			when frost no more our skin shall parch.

			Now spring with tepid breeze serene
			turns snows out of our valley,
			chasing wretch’d Winter from the scene,
			and finally, to spy young green,
			Mars calls us to the rally,

			waking the shoots with thunderclaps
			to spring up through the soil,
			while here and there our sight perhaps
			Spring’s flowering firstlings spoil.

			Now, peasant, tarry not, but go
			and see your fields are toll!
			Likewise the townsman shall do so:
			frolic in March sun’s splendid glow,
			as pigs in dung do roll!
